"Gone
With The Wind" & Chautauqua
4
DAY TOUR: Aug 17 to 20th/11 Nestled in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania sits a magnificent mansion of
a bygone era. Once you step inside "Tara" you
realize that the owners Donna & Jim Winner have succeeded in capturing
the essence of the grand mansions that was the cynosure of "Gone
with the Wind". Today, to be a guest at Tara for a few days
is to hurl yourself into a time warp-a time warp of the Old South 130
years ago. Wherever you go throughout the mansion, you are haunted
in a simply charming way by the ghosts of Rhett Butler, Scarlett O'Hara
and other characters that have made "Gone With The Wind"
the world's all-time biggest box office attraction.
The
Mansion A virtual museum of Civil War and "Gone With The
Wind" memorabilia, Tara is alive with history. Museum
quality collections include one of the largest Civil War weapons
collections in the country, dozens of Frederick Remington bronzes, antique
furniture, including President Buchanan's dining room table, and many more
elegant antiques and original works of art. A place where, indeed,
"tomorrow is another day".
The
Guestrooms: Gone with the wind are the glorious days of the Old
South, an enchanting era, where elegance and style were a way of
life. The Golden Days may be gone forever but the grace, grandeur
and romance of the Antebellum south live on in Tara, where uncommon
excellence in hospitality are still a way of life. Tara's 27
magnificent guestrooms, each furnished and decorated in different way and
named after a character from Gone with the Wind, are the ultimate in
luxury.
DAY
1
Arrive Tara early afternoon for a 2-night stay at this magnificent
mansion. A welcome tray of fruit and cheese and afternoon tea will be
served upon arrival. Before being escorted to your room, you will be given
a guided
tour of Tara to view many of the luxury guestrooms. The remainder of
the day and evening is free to enjoy the hotel facilities, perhaps a
relaxing swim in the indoor or outdoor pool or a leisurely stroll through the magnificent gardens. Family style dinner included at Tara this
evening.
DAY
2 A step-on guide will
join our group for a tour of Avenue of 444 Flags. American flags for as far as the eye
can see greet visitors as they enter the Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Originally flown for the American hostages that were held in Iran between
1979 and 1981 the 444 flags remain today a symbol of American hope and
pride. This is truly an awesome sight and the largest known display
of flags in the world. Next, you will have free time in downtown
Sharon where you will find many interesting and unique stores including
the world's largest shoe store, the world largest candy store and
chocolate kingdom and the world's largest off-price fashion store with
50-80% off designer fashions. We return to Tara for afternoon tea and
relaxation time. An optional trip to Grove City Outlet mall
will be offered before dinner. Family style dinner included at Tara this evening.
DAY
3 Chautauqua, New York A short journey today will take us to
Millcreek mall in Erie, Pennsylvania for lunch and shopping. Next, we
arrive in Jamestown, New York for overnight stay. This evening, it's
all aboard "The Summer Wind" for a delightful
dinner cruise. This cruise will take us to Chautauqua Institution
where we disembark. Chautauqua is a gated community has a dramatic lakeside
setting and is reminiscent of a bygone era of small town America a century
ago. Gingerbread style cottages, quaint shops, a library, post
office and charming gardens nestled together create a living quilt.
You will have time to explore on your own before taking your seat at the
outdoor covered amphitheater for an evening concert."Blood, Sweat
& Tears" will light up the stage with their greatest hits
including "Spinning Wheel". "Hi De Ho", And When I
Die", "You've Made Me So Very Happy" plus many more.
Next, acclaimed trumpet virtuoso "Arturo Sondoval" will
display his crowd-pleasing technique with dramatic finesse.
