Mackinac
Island Lilac Festival
Including
Frankenmuth,
Michigan
4
Days: June 15 to 18, 2012
DAY
1: After
a stop at the duty free shop we cross into the great state of Michigan and
make our way to Frankenmuth, known as Michigan's little Bavaria.
Frankenmuth is a pretty town nestled on the banks of the beautiful Cass
River. You will find an old-world European flavor and Franconian-style
architecture. Horses trotting down the street, authentic German
meals, Cheese Hauses, unique gift shops, and a friendly atmosphere are
just a part of what you will find. The lovely Bavarian Inn Lodge is
where we will spend the night and is a tourist attraction on its
own. Comfortable rooms, 5 swimming pools, 2 restaurants, 2
entertainment lounges, with free nightly entertainment, 2 gift shops,
18-hole indoor golf make this Lodge a place you won't want to leave.
However, a short stroll across the wooden covered bridge will take us into
town to explore on your own. Family-style chicken dinner is included at
the hotel this evening. Remainder of the evening is free to
relax, swim or enjoy a sing-along or karaoke in one of the lounges.
DAY
2: After a hearty
German-style buffet breakfast we make our way through Michigan's Lower
Peninsula and across one of the worlds largest and most beautiful suspension bridges. This journey will take us to St.
Ignace in the Upper Peninsula. Excellent accommodations for the next
two nights are situated on the shores of Lake Huron and the Straits of
Mackinac. Enjoy a walk on the beach, a stroll into the village or
relax by the indoor or outdoor pool. Shuttle service available each evening to the Kewadin
Casino. Beach BBQ is included this
evening.
DAY
3:
A
short journey on the ferry this morning takes us to beautiful Mackinac
Island where we will be met by horse-drawn carriage for a tour of this
verdant Island. The tour concludes at the stately Grand Hotel where
we will be ushered into the elegant dining room for a sumptuous buffet.
The meal and ambiance of this magnificent world-famous hotel is considered
by many as the "highlight of the tour".
Next,
you will have time to explore this stately hotel at your leisure.
The hotel's most unforgettable architectural feature is its seemingly
endless colonnaded front porch. Reputed to be the longest porch in
the world, it stretches the entire length of the hotel's elegant
facade. Visitors need only spend a few relaxing moments in one
of the dozens of rocking chairs on the 880-foot long verandah to
understand why this famous porch has captured the hearts of so many for
over a century. The remainder of the day will be spent exploring on
your own, enjoying the horse-drawn floats in the Lilac Parade, browsing in
the unique stores that line the streets of this Resort Island, or relaxing
on a bench by the water. Returning by ferry to the mainland you will
have the remainder of the evening free to do as you please. Coach will
drop off at the casino for those interested. Beach bonfire and marshmallow roast
included at the hotel this evening.
DAY
