Mackinac
Island Lilac Festival
4
Days: June 13 to 16, 2009
DAY
1: A
leisurely drive takes us to the Blue Water
Bridge in Sarnia where we cross into the great state of Michigan.
After
a shopping stop at the duty free shop we cross into the great state of
Michigan. A Buffet meal is included and time will be allowed
to shop and pick up supplies for the hotel room before continuing our
journey through Michigan's Lower Peninsula and across one of the worlds largest and most
beautiflul suspension bridges. This journey will take us to St.
Ignace in the Upper Peninsula. Excellent accommodations for the next
three nights are situated on the shores of Lake Huron and the Straits of
Mackinac. Enjoy a walk on the beach, a stroll into the village or
relax by the indoor or outdoor pool. Shuttle service available each evening to the Kewadin
Casino. Beach bonfire and marshmallow roast included at the hotel this
evening.
DAY
2: A
short journey on the ferry this morning takes us to beautiful Mackinac
Island where we will be met by horse-drawn carriage for a tour of this
verdant Island. The tour concludes at the stately Grand Hotel where
we will be ushered into the elegant dining room for a sumptuous buffet.
The meal and ambiance of this magnificent world-famous hotel is considered
by many as the "highlight of the tour".
Next,
you will have time to explore this stately hotel at your leisure.
The hotel's most unforgettable architectural feature is its seemingly
endless colonnaded front porch. Reputed to be the longest porch in
the world, it stretches the entire length of the hotel's elegant
facade. Visitors need only spend a few relaxing moments in one
of the dozens of rocking chairs on the 880-foot long verandah to
understand why this famous porch has captured the hearts of so many for
over a century. The remainder of the day will be spent exploring on
your own, enjoying the horse-drawn floats in the Lilac Parade, browsing in
the unique stores that line the streets of this Resort Island, or relaxing
on a bench by the water. Returning by ferry to the mainland you will
have the remainder of the evening free to do as you please. Coach will
drop off at the casino for those interested. Beach bonfire and marshmallow roast
included at the hotel this evening.
DAY
3:
Today can be as relaxing or as busy as you please. You might opt to
relax and enjoy hotel facilities, or take a walk on the beach. An
optional shopping excursion will be offered to Mackinaw Crossings, a
unique waterfront shopping complex, or perhaps you might opt to return to
Mackinac Island to explore more on your own. The ferry docks are a
short walk from our hotel. Beach BBQ is included this evening.
DAY
4: Departing St. Ignace, we retrace our journey homeward. Buffet
meal included before crossing the border back into Canada.
